Help Desk 2

Hi. Um. God?

Nope. Sorry I’m not God. Just the Help Desk.

Oh. Well, maybe you can help me.

Maybe.

I’m feeling so lost.

How so?

Like, I know I am good at a lot of things and I work hard and I have friends and everything, but I can’t help but wonder what I can do next? Like, how do I make myself into something worthy of living?

Worthy of living? What on earth does that mean?

I don’t know what the next step is! How do I make money and enjoy doing it?!

What next step? Clarify! You’re twenty-something and you’re so annoyingly general!

I just, I just… I look at the older people in my life and freak out because I don’t know what I can do to have that kind of security when, meanwhile, I’m 26 and still stuck working at a fuck-all shit job. I feel like I could be doing things that are so much better for me.

You want to be a Doctor, Lawyer, or Engineer?

No.

Therapist, Architect, or Model?

No.

What do you want to be?

I’m not sure at the moment. I feel horrible about that.

You don’t have to feel horrible about that. Take this day by day. Are you overall happy?

Yes.

Are you accomplishing enough to make you happy in a few months?

Yes.

Are you exploring? Taking in new experiences and meeting new people while, overall, keeping a generally positive attitude?

Yes.

Then do what I tell you.

Okay. Please. I need a direction.

Take a deep breath. There is no God that can hear your pleas and magically make all come true. Your own drive will do that. You, believe it or not, are totally in charge of your own life. Take a deep breath. You may not see any change for years, but there will be change and as long as you keep your mind and heart open to new experiences and people, you will meet that change and it will help you. Take a deep breath. Many adults who are in their 70’s are going through what you are going through at 26, and in comparison, you have oodles of time to make anything happen. Take a deep breath! Be patient!

But, how will I know it will all work out?

Because it will. It has to.

I… I’m so scared.

That’s OK. Being scared is natural. Everyone gets a little scared about the future.

So, what should I do?

Breathe. Everything will work out.

I just… trust that?

As long as you are positive, hard working, and are open to new experiences: yes. You can do it. You can do anything.

Thank you.

Don’t thank me, ¬†you already know all this, you just need to see and hear it again from time to time.
